With CSAR/OPTIM2, users can automate design through structuraloptimization using mathematical programming techniques. CSAR/OPTIM2 usesa procedure that consists of minimizing an objective function, namely theweight of the structure, subjected to a set of behavioral constraints(e.g., limits on stress, displacement, vibration frequency, or bucklingeigenvalue) and side constraints (e.g., limits on member sizes) usingmathematical programming techniques. Both the Sequence of UnconstrainedMinimization Techniques (SUMT and NEWSUMT type algorithms) andConstrained Function Minimization Techniques (Methods of FeasibleDirection and CONMIN type algorithms) are available in the program.
